The T5140 and T5240 are the next wave of highly efficient servers, based on the second generation of Chip Multi-threaded technology (CMT). Both the T5140 and T5240 feature two 8 core, 64 thread T2 processors.

x64 AMD Opteron Severs

The new x64 servers, Sun Fire X4140 and X4440, support the latest AMD Opteron processors. The X4140 is a two socket 4U server whereas the X4440 is a four socket 4U server. On first release the servers will ship with dual core CPUs. When the quad core CPUs are released, the X4440 will support up to 16 CPU cores.

The new addition to the Sun Blade 8000 modular family provides users with the option of Intel Xeon Quad-Core processors, in a blade format. The Sun Blade X8450 supports up to 16 cores per module and 32 DIMM slots, thus providing extreme power density and memory capacity.

Sun Blade modular systems support Solaris 10, Linux, Windows, and VMware. This means you can run Solaris LDOMs, Citrix XenServer, Sun xVM, VMware, and the upcoming Windows virtualisation software on the Sun Blade X8450 server.
