Quad-Core AMD Opteron Processors:
New Quad-Core AMD Opteron Processor available in a selection of SUN Servers
On Tuesday 13th May 2008 SUN introduced the new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor in a range of their servers.
The new Quad-Core AMD processor offers customers an increase in performance and scalability along with energy efficiency which ultimately gives the customers more value for their money.
Storage: The Sun Fire X4140 and Sun Fire X4240 can be used as mini-storage units with eight and 16 disks drives respectively. They are ideally suited for scale-out applications, such as database and HPC and with their very high I/O throughput they are ideal as Open Storage servers to deploy highly scalable storage infrastructures. With the flash-based disk technologies, the systems are already optimized to deliver the next significant boost in application performance.
Density: The Sun Fire X4440 and Sun Fire X4600 M2 are both able to offer the same level of memory as similar systems, but they take up half the space. The Sun Fire X4440 is the first server with 4-socket x64 AMD Opteron in a 2U form factor, so now you can have 16 AMD cores in just 2U.
Memory: The Sun Fire X4600 M2 and Sun Blade X8440 has the highest memory capacity and is optimized for virtualisation with a maximum of 256GB. |
